What do you focus on for your clients
I am an experienced commercial and regulatory lawyer with a breadth of experience gained both in private practice and in-house across a variety of industries, including technology, telecoms, media and utilities. I have particular expertise in privacy and data protection (I hold the CIPP/E certification and have acted as a Data Protection Officer). I also have substantial experience in procurement law, as well as a wide range of commercial matters ranging from standard terms and conditions through to large-scale IT outsourcing agreements.
Tell us about your professional background
I trained with a major national firm before moving in-house taking up a role at Thames Water. I then spent nine years in the BBC’s legal department where I was involved in a diverse range of commercial, data protection, procurement and Freedom of Information issues. Since joining Halebury I have had placements with BT plc in their Business and Public Sector legal team, Centrica Plc where I acted as an interim Data Protection Officer and latterly with PwC’s in-house privacy team.
Tell us a bit about your working style and other interests
I don’t believe technical legal ability is enough to be a really effective in-house lawyer – it needs to be combined with an ability to communicate and swiftly build effective relationships within a business. This is very much how I approach my role as a Halebury lawyer. Away from the law, I split my time between the UK and Italy and love to spend time discovering new parts of the world with my family.
Nancy is very approachable and conscientious in her advice, always displays a commercial approach and is able to balance this with protecting the business. She is able to work quickly and diligently and maintain great working relationships.
