The In-House Experience: Rules of Engagement
By Richard Dalby: I’m currently working on a blueprint for establishing and managing successful in-house legal teams. In practise, each business will be unique and its requirements for legal services will reflect the size and identity of the enterprise, the nature of the industry and the risk taking culture of the senior management. However, I have identified a number of key elements and I wanted to share some of these in advance.
The first of these is engagement, and in an over-indulgence of wit, I have named this chart “The Rules of Engagement”. Legal teams often talk of a “them and us” mentality within their business, but are often among the worst offenders at keeping themselves to themselves. These are my collected highlights for a legal team manager to bear in mind when seeking to improve engagement with the business, each other and the outside world.
